At Avalon Journal of Law, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, rigor, and fairness in the review and publication of legal scholarship. Our peer review process is designed to ensure that all submissions receive constructive feedback and are evaluated solely on academic merit.

1. Single-Blind Review

All research articles submitted to Avalon Journal of Law undergo a single-blind peer review process. This means:

  • The reviewers are aware of the author’s identity.
  • Authors do not know the identities of their reviewers.
  • Reviewers are expected to assess submissions objectively, without personal bias.

2. Reviewer Selection

Reviewers are selected from a pool of qualified legal scholars, professionals, and academics with relevant subject-matter expertise. Reviewers are screened for:

  • Relevant academic or professional experience
  • Familiarity with the submission’s subject area
  • Absence of any conflict of interest

3. Review Timeline

  • Editorial Screening: Within 7–10 business days
  • Review Process: 2–4 weeks (depending on reviewer availability)
  • Final Decision: Within 5 weeks from submission

4. Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers evaluate submissions based on:

  • Originality and scholarly contribution
  • Clarity and coherence
  • Legal reasoning and methodology
  • Relevance to contemporary legal discourse
  • Adherence to the journal’s citation and formatting style

5. Decision-Making

Reviewers provide a detailed assessment and a recommendation (accept, revise, or reject). Final decisions are made by the editorial board based on:

  • Reviewer comments
  • Editorial judgment
  • Fit with the journal’s scope and issue theme

6. Confidentiality

All submissions and communications during the review process are strictly confidential. Reviewers are expected not to share, reproduce, or use the manuscript content before publication.

7. Plagiarism and Ethics

Submissions found to involve plagiarism, data manipulation, or unethical conduct will be rejected and may be reported to relevant academic authorities. The journal uses plagiarism-checking software before review.
